Seville Water Play Park closure and water quality issue.

25/01/2012

As you may be aware, the water play park was recently closed due to water quality issues, amongst reports of children contracting gastro around Christmas and New year.

We have written to the Council with a number of concerns on this issue that need to be addressed.  A copy of the letter is below.

___________________________________________________

Good morning,

We, the Seville Township Group, are seriously concerned regarding the water quality at the Seville Water Play Park (WPP).
I understand that it has now been confirmed that the water does contain unsafe levels of E.Coli.

We have a number of questions and concerns that we would like answered.

Was the water quality at the WPP being regularly tested? How often?
If so, was the testing/maintenance schedule increased during the peak period time over the Christmas/New Year school holidays? To what extent?  If testing was not increased, why not?
If the testing was being undertaken, how did the heightened levels of E.Coli go undetected?
What changes will be made to the maintenance and testing to ensure that the water stays at a safe quality?
What will council do to promote the safety of the Water Play park to restore the damaged reputation of the park? We suggest one avenue being a story in the next issue of Shirewide, explaining fully the issue and how it has been resolved.
We have received a number of complaints of people turning up to the park and finding it closed (prior  to and including the water quality issue).  A number of people have stated that they have turned up X times to find it’s closed the majority of their visits.  One suggestion is to have the council install a button on their website that says the Water Play Park is open/closed, especially when unscheduled maintenance is occurring.  Publicising this button will ensure that people do not take unnecessary trips.
How do we ensure that any future issues with the water play park are reported to the Seville Township Group so that we can inform the community?
This letter will also be published on our facebook page and blog so that community members can be equally informed.

10/06/2011

Check out the new Seville Water Play Park!

The weather is a little cold now, but on any warmish day, head down with your children and check it out.  It’s great fun and a lovely safe way to play with water.
